The Kentucky 4-H Country Ham Competition was held on Thursday, August 17, at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds in Louisville, KY.  The youth began curing their hams in January 2023 and did the final cleaning in August. They cured two hams but selected only one to advance to the Kentucky State Fair.  As part of the competition, they had to present a speech about their ham which consisted of 60% of the overall score. The ham was judged on several standards and was 40% of the score.  The following youth competed in the project:  Dalton Foley (red ribbon), Jace Anderson (blue ribbon), Vance Foley (blue ribbon), Bailey Gosser (blue ribbon), Chase Robertson (blue ribbon), and Cali Robertson (blue ribbon). The leader of the country ham project is Micah Foley.  For more information about the project, please contact the Russell County Extension Service at 270-866-4477.
